Wrestlers #3 captures a Greco-Roman gut wrench as two compress into one the athletes lose their individual silhouettes, merging into a single knot of limbs that recalls the Hellenistic tradition of intertwined figures, later emulated by the Romans.

Dark Matter juxtaposes images of wrestlers with fires and airplane accidents clipped from a rural Idaho newspaper. Upscaled to more than two by three feet, the halftone becomes a veil that withholds close reading of the work. In the fallen figures of the wrestlers, an invisible but ever-present force becomes visible—one that defines the nature of our realities and our relationships.
